SUBANG JAYA: A freak accident involving a lorry and two cars erupted in a ball of flame at the Sunway toll plaza, leaving a toll booth attendant injured and a massive traffic jam along the Damansara Puchong Highway, Tuesday evening.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations director Mohd Sani Harul said the driver of the lorry, carrying red soil towards from Kinrara Sunway, lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a Toyota Estima and a Proton Saga BLM travelling in the same direction at KM40.5.

The high-speed wreck of metal then collided into the concrete divider between lane four and five of the Sunway toll plaza, before erupting in flames.

Miraculously, the two drivers managed to escape without injury while the lorry driver fled the scene, said Puchong Fire and Rescue Department chief PKPgB Mohd Hisam Mat Yasih.

"However, a female toll booth attendant sustained minor injuries when the vehicles crashed into her booth. She has been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment.

"Bomba arrived on the scene at 3.53pm and it took 11 officers from the Puchong and Penchala stations to successfully put out the fire at 4.20pm," he said.

The incident forced highway authorities to close down lane four and five of the busy toll plaza for a clean-up, causing a massive traffic jam from Kinrara to Sunway and Seafield.

As at 9.30pm, Malaysia Highway Board’s (LLM) officials said that the lanes were still closed to traffic and would remain so indefinitely.

LLM tweeted a picture of the vehicles on fire at the Kesas Highway Sunway toll plaza.
